Two new laws dealing with the use of wireless telephones while operating a motor vehicle will become effective on July 1, 2008. Cellular telephone use has been a contributing factor to many injury traffic accidents. Officers from the San Bernardino Police Department will be enforcing these new traffic safety laws.
California Vehicle Code Section 23123 prohibits all drivers from using a handheld wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle.
California Vehicle Code Section 23124 prohibits motorists under age 18 from using any wireless telephone or hands-free telephone device while operating a motor vehicle.
