The Divisions

Operations Division - The Operations Division provides general law enforcement services around-the-clock. Uniformed officers and Community Service Officers respond to approximately 1000 calls-for-service every twenty-four hours. Specialized law enforcement services such as Canine Officers, Traffic Officers, Bicycle Mounted Enforcement Officers, and District Resource Officers are part of this division. On February 11, 2019, the City Council authorized a reorganization plan that divided the Operations Division into five districts (Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western, and Central). The primary purpose of this reorganization was to dedicate officers to be more responsive to concerns in their respective districts, whereas officers could employ the Community-Policing Philosophy and apply better resolutions to those community concerns.

Investigations Division - The Investigation Division is comprised of three bureaus. The Detective Bureau is made up of several units of investigators: Specialized Crimes, Property Crimes, Case Filing, Forensics Division, Property Division, Robbery, and Homicide. Each unit is supervised by a tenured Sergeant. The Detective Bureau is led by a Police Lieutenant who is responsible for managing the complex investigative workload of this team. The Special Enforcement Bureau is made up of the Vice Unit, Narcotics Unit, Gangs Unit, Regional Task Forces, and the Crisis Response Unit. The Special Investigations Bureau is also supervised by tenured Sergeants and is managed by a Police Lieutenant. The Community Affairs Bureau is responsible for local and regional networking, maintains media liaison responsibilities, manages our Volunteer Services, and proactively fosters and upholds community relationships throughout our City. The Emergency Operations Center is capable of facilitating single or unified command operations during collaborated training sessions or actual disasters.

Administrative Services Division - The Administrative Services Division provides all of the support services needed to manage a staff of over 400 employees. The Personnel and Training Unit coordinates all personnel issues and hosts a variety of departmental training programs. The Communications Center serves as the primary Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the City of San Bernardino. All of the Police Department's enforcement records are maintained in the Records Bureau. Financial and payroll services are provided by the department's Financial Services Unit. Automation and Communications equipment is maintained by the Information Technology Division's Public Safety Systems Group, which is located at the main police facility.
