On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at approximately 6:45 A.M., a fully uniformed San Bernardino Police Department Motor Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle for vehicle code violations in the area of 7th Street and Sierra Way. The vehicle failed to stop and led the officer on a vehicle pursuit which concluded in the 1200 block of Pepper Tree Lane in the City of San Bernardino. After stopping his vehicle, the suspect exited it and began running from the officer.
The suspect jumped over a fence into a residential yard with a firearm in his hand. The officer gave the suspect several different commands to stop and get down on the ground, but the suspect refused to listen to the officer’s orders and fled, still holding the firearm. The officer continued to chase until the suspect jumped into the rear yard of another residence, and an officer involved shooting occurred. The gun the suspect was in possession of was a 9MM which had been reported stolen from out of the state.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury. The suspect was identified as Robert Brown, a 28-year-old resident of Rialto. Brown had a no bail warrant for his arrest and an extensive criminal history.
